My name is Dcn. Raymond Philip Napuli, a seminarian at Mt. Angel Seminary and a transitional deacon in priestly formation for the Diocese of San Diego, CA. I am very blessed to have the upcoming opportunity of pastoral ministry as a deacon at St. John the Apostle parish this year and am thankful for your and Fr. D’Costa’s openness to accompany me at this part of my formation. I was born in the Philippines on Oct. 5, 1989 and grew up in San Diego, CA, being the eldest of two brothers. I felt God’s call to be a priest as a very young boy, but it wasn’t until I was in college that I started to more intently discern and pray about my vocation. Not long after graduating with a music degree from the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA, I began seminary formation in Pre-Theology at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, CA. By God’s grace, and having recently been ordained a transitional deacon, I am now beginning my fourth (and final) year of formation in Theology at Mt. Angel Seminary. Aside from my seminary studies, music remains to be among my interests, along with poetry, history, philosophy, and literature. My favorite aspect of ministry and of my vocation journey is seeing God’s abundant grace manifesting in so many ways through different people and events and I certainly look forward to seeing that unfold during my time at St. John the Apostle’s. Please pray that I would be the deacon God wants me to be and a deacon which you deserve. I highly look forward to us getting to know each other.
