November 18, 1955 - June 6, 2024
Robert “Bob” Paul Grondin, also known as “The Boob”, peacefully passed away on June 06, 2024. He died in the comfort of his longtime Oregon City home, surrounded by his wife and children. He made the decision to stop life prolonging treatments earlier in the year, which allowed his 11 year battle post esophageal cancer to end on his own terms.
Robert was born in Burbank, California in 1955 to George and Aurore Grondin. As a young man, he could be found riding his bike through the hills of California, scuba diving, pursuing amateur photography, and causing good mischief. After he graduated high school, he enlisted for 6 years in the United States Naval Construction Battalion, also known as the Navy Seabees. He was deployed to many islands including Midway, Guantanamo Bay, and Diego Garcia. His time in the service jump-started his 40 year career as an electrician, which he thoroughly loved.
In 1970, Robert met his future wife, Karen, when they were both young teenagers. They married in 1978, moved to Oregon in 1980, and were blessed with three children. They created amazing memories together during their 46 years of marriage, including some epic family vacations, hiking throughout the Pacific Northwest, fishing with friends & family, and always taking the road less traveled.
Robert was a man of his word with unwavering kindness towards everyone his path crossed. He prioritized time with his family and was proud to claim nearly 20 years of sobriety, which led him to pursue many hobbies. Throughout the years, he could be found making beef jerky, carving walking sticks, tree climbing, panning for gold, metal detecting, and much more! He spent many hours joyfully sharing his talents with his grandchildren and family.
Robert is survived by his wife and their children, Rory (Katie Jo), Lynnette (Brandt), Danielle (Mark), as well as seven grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by many beloved extended family members, including his nephew Steven. Robert was predeceased by his aforementioned parents, his brother Arthur, his Uncle Leo, and other close relatives.
