Ted Bennett Obituary

October 18, 1935 - January 4, 2024

Theodore (Ted) Edward Bennett, 88, of Oregon City, OR suddenly passed away on January 04, 2024, during a heart procedure. His loss is unexpected, and his family and friends are profoundly saddened.

Ted was born on October 18, 1935, to his parents, Edward and Leona, in Dayton, OH. He joined his older sister, Carol, and a large, extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins whose influences were instrumental in the gentleman Ted became. Ted lived in Dayton until enlisting the in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Forrestal supercarrier. After his service, Ted returned to Dayton and met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dotty) Nartker. Shortly after their marriage and the birth of their first child, Lisa, the family moved to California where their son, Daniel, was born. In 1977, the Bennett family moved to the place of their dreams and made their home in Oregon City, Oregon.

Professionally, Ted worked as a lithographer. More importantly, he was an exemplary father and is described by those that love him as a kind and thoughtful man guided by his devout Catholic faith. He led by example and embodied only the best of qualities: unconditional love, integrity, moral uprightness, and an unending generosity that could be seen in his care for his family and church community.

After his children were grown and after Dotty’s passing, Ted spent most of his time on his cherished hobby as a wood craftsman. It’s during this time that he joined the Parishioners Without Partners social club of Oregon City’s St. John’s Parish. Affectionately referred to as “the PWOPs,” these men and women were more than friends; they became treasured members of his family.

His passing comes as a shock, and it is deeply felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him. Ted is survived by his beloved family – his children Lisa and Dan; daughter-in-law, Julie; and his five grandchildren. Also surviving Ted are his dearest sister, Carol, several generations of nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Ted’s funeral Mass will take place at St. John in Oregon City on Friday, January 26th at 11:00 a.m. with the rosary at 10:30am. Reception following funeral in the Parish Center.
